Shades of Green Afghan

I have been spending all of my spare time crocheting this afghan, and yesterday I FINALLY finished it! Its my first afghan! Woohoo! I'm really pleased with the design and the colors that I chose. My hubby likes it so much that he asked me to do one in Gators colors, so that'll me my next side project. Then I think I will put together a baby blanket. I'm so glad to be back online too! My modem went out in my laptop so I was without the net for about a week (not good when you have an online business!!!) My hubby decided to get me a desktop this time and so thats what Im using now. I am really hoping that in the coming weeks we will be able to get highspeed internet because netzero is creeping! I mean, I have had dial up for sometime. It comes with the territory of living in the middle of nowhere lol. BUT when I had aol it was much faster than netzero. I can literally click on a website, then go to another room and finish a chore like vaccuming or dishes before its totally loaded! Its really annoying to be honest, but at least I am online lol. Keepin my fingers crossed for high speed though! =) I will be working on some new art in the coming days as well. I'm trying to get a little of everything in my shop and its lacking art at the moment. I just need to figure out WHAT it is I want to draw or paint. Any suggestions folks?!?

Lyrics: 'If I Die Young' by The Band Perry

I was listening to The Highway earlier today while I was doing some geneology research (not really having any luck on that front btw!) and this song came on by The Band Perry. I've never heard of the group or the song. I guess they are another new group of kids trying to modernize country music?! I honestly kind of liked the song. The topic and lyrics are kind of morbid but I liked the sound of the song and some of the lyrics too....So I thought I would share the lyrics. I'm a little curious to know if they have other singles out or if this was their first. I'd like to get the feel of their music to see if I would like it. I don't really like buying cd's if I will only like 1 or 2 songs from the entire album. I think its a big waste. If you get the chance to hear it, let me know what you think.

If I die young bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
oh oh oh oh

Lord make me a rainbow,
I’ll shine down on my mother
She'll know I’m safe with you when she stands under my colors,
oh and Life ain't always what you think it ought to be,
no Ain't even grey, but she buries her baby
The sharp knife of a short life,

well I’ve had just enough time

If I die young bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
The sharp knife of a short life

well I’ve had just enough time

And I’ll be wearing white when I come into your kingdom
I’m as green as the ring on my little cold finger
I’ve never known the lovin' of a man
But it sure felt nice when he was holding my hand
There’s a boy here in town says he’ll love me forever
Who would have thought forever could be severed by
The sharp knife of a short life,

well I’ve had just enough time

So put on your best boys and I’ll wear my pearls
What I never did is done
A penny for my thoughts, oh no I’ll sell them for a dollar
They're worth so much more after I’m a goner
And maybe then you’ll hear the words I been singin’
Funny when you're dead how people start listenin’

If I die young bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
oh oh The ballad of a dove
Go with peace and love
Gather up your tears, keep ‘em in your pocket
Save them for a time when your really gonna need 'em
oh The sharp knife of a short life, well I’ve had just enough time
So put on your best boys and I’ll wear my pearls

Meet Albert....

Meet Albert the Betta Fish =) My hubby got him for me last weekend. He's such a pretty orange isnt he? He's goes perfectly in our Gator Room. Thats right, we have a Gator room. Not for alligators folks, but we are Florida Gators fans here and so we have a room decorated in orange & blue to show off our Gator pride =) His aquarium has a blue bottom and top and I even found orange and blue stones for the bottom of his aquarium! He's not a very skittish fish to be honest. Normally they swim away from you if you tap the glass etc. But Albert just stares at you LOL. If only fish could talk, I wonder what he would be saying to me. I can only imagine that its not nice! LMAO!

I bet you're wondering why his name is Albert??? Well.... FU's mascots name is Albert E. Gator =) Haha!

So not only have you gotten to meet my perty fish, but you learned a Florida fun fact! HA! Have a great day!

New Blog & stuff...

I'm so sleepy! If I sound like a complete loon, please attempt to overlook it. LOL. I was up until almost 3 am because I couldn't sleep, then my hubby leaves for work at around 5:15 and wakes me up to say goodbye (his normal routine) and I just couldn't go back to sleep. My mind kept wandering, and I couldn't stop thinking of all the things I wanted to do today... My lifestyle changes that I am praying I will actually stick with... The things me and Tim need to do this weekend when he gets off... I even was looking around the room and thinking of how I could redecorate it! ACKK! So I just caved and got up. I hate when my mind races like that!

Me and my best friend Ginger decided that we both are going to give our best effort in changing our lifestyles to something healthier. We plan on dieting & exercising to reach goals that we both set. We then created a blog where we are going to share healthy recipes, our goals, accomplishments and fallbacks, as well as personal blogs through our journey. We want to keep each other motivated, so that we dont cave on it and we actually reach our goals to better, healthier lives. Its not going to be easy! If you want to follow along our journey and even help to support us, feel free to check out our blog at http://twofatchycks.blogspot.com/

On another note, the postal service stinks! LOL! We sent a package out almost 2 weeks ago. It will be 2 weeks on Saturday. To my sister who lives in California and she still has yet to receive it! It really drives me crazy at how slow things they can be... especially when you pay for priority mail thats SUPPOSED to be 2-4 days. UGH!

I finished re-reading Eclipse for the upcoming film. I can not wait until the movie comes out! I want to go to the midnight show but I know that it will be super hard for Tim since he has to leave for work at 5 am. Sooo I think we may go on the 1st after he gets off of work or something. I'm really glad I read the book again too because I completely forgot some very important moments in the story! It would have been too funny if I would have seen the movie and claimed that they added things and really they didn't.. it was in the story and I just didnt remember. I'd really feel like a smart person then. Haha! I'm hoping they keep to the story though and that they don't leave too much out. I know they can't include every little thing but still. I also think it will be very interesting to see how they mention Imprinting. Thats going to be a toughy!

Now I am reading 'The Last Song' by Nicholas Sparks. So far so good, but I haven't really gotten into the story yet. Only read the first couple of chapters.

I've added a couple of pretty cool items to the shop. Check them out at http://longestyarn.etsy.com/

Well I think thats all for now,

I can hardly believe that in 40 something days I will be celebrating my 3 year blogiversary! Its hard to believe that its been that long! I'm kinda proud that I've been doing this for so long. Its kinda cool to look back on everything! I've changed this blog sooo many times LOL. I always get tired of the way it looks and want to snaz it up. :) I need to come up with some sort of giveaway to celebrate the anniversary, that should be fun. I'll put a little something together soon and let you all know in advance!

I thought this was a really cool tutorial on how to use a drop spindle to spin yarn and I wanted to share :) I made my own drop spindle today and can not wait to dye and spin my first skein of yarn. Now I just need to find some really decent priced roving ;)

He looks alot like his daddy in my opinion :) That makes the second Nephew for us this year lol. WOW. Our family sure is growing!

Maybe one of these days Tim and I can celebrate the joy of a new child, anyway... welcome to the world MJ!

The cutest nephew ever...

Isnt this a cute picture of my nephew Adam?!? He's such a cutie pie! LOL.I wish he was smiling but I guess he was just too into his snack. LOL! I love that my brother and sister-in-law take all of these pictures of him for us since we live so far away and miss out on so much with him. It makes us feel a little better that we can see him even if we arent there in person. I just miss the lil guy like crazy though! Just had to share, it put a smile on my face today =)

Just Blogging...

I'm tired of drama, especially family drama... why can't I watch a soap opera to get my drama fix, instead of having to deal with stupid stuff like who bought what for who and when. UGH. I get so tired of drama, greed, bitterness, jealousy....etc etc.

Isn't our Zoey soo cute?! I took this picture of her today, she is a camera hound for sure :) I've gotten REALLY attached to her already. I thought that once we found homes for her brothers that she would sort of be lonely and look for them but she is happy and hasnt acted differently. Maybe even acting better! Who knew lol. I am SOOO happy that we found good loving homes for the other 2 puppies and that they are together in the same home, with kids! yay! Turns out that the family that adopted them are really nice and their son has had some issues with swelling in his brain, he is pretty sick and has had a lot of testing done recently, so they adopted the puppies to sort of cheer up everyone especially their son. I hate that he is sick but I'm so happy that we could offer them a puppy to brighten his days. Oddly enough the father works with Tim and his name is also Tim, AND his wife's name is Andrea, AND she's also originally from NC. TALK ABOUT COINKEDINKS! Tim really gets along with them and so we are hoping that maybe we can get to know them and maybe be friends. They would be our first friends to hang out with here which I think would be nice.

On a damper note, Tim's great aunt Alma passed away on Wednesday night and the funeral is Monday. Unfortunately, we can't make it because its in Florida and Tim has to work, and we just dont have the funds. :( Tim's a little down about that, but his mom is taking a flight tomorrow down so that she can be there because it was her Aunt and so she is going to send our condolences. I never met her but from what I've heard she was a wonderful lady and there are many fond memories of her. May she rest in peace.

If you havent noticed, I have changed up this blog a bit. I'm really happy with the new layout and everything. I'm trying to make this blog a bit more personal and less 100% focused on The Longest Yarn. Yes its a BIG part of my life, but there's a lot more going on that I would LOVE to have an outlet to talk about.

Me and my bestie, Ginger, are on chapter 7 of our Eclipse re-read. We have a book discussion blog called Dixie Book Diva's where we are talking about the book as we read. We would LOVE for anyone to join in with our discussions. We will be reading & discussing Eclipse this month and next month we will be reading/discussing 'The Sweet Far Thing' by Libba Bray. Any and everyone's welcome to join in at any time.

I'm working on several crochet projects that I will be putting up in the shop soon. There's an afghan (that i've blogged about before), a messenger bag, a few more mary jane slipper sets, possibly a few more coaster sets, and I'm thinking a few more headbands. Not only that but I have 2 commissioned drawings, and a request for a travel bag (for toothpaste, toothbrush etc)... I'm going to be busy busy busy!

Aren't our roses beautiful?! I was sooo happy to go out today after several days of rain, and take pictures of the beautiful roses that have blossomed. I need to figure out what I can use for the pests that are eating the leaves.. so annoying. I went out today to check on our apple tree as well and it has big black ants all over the leaves... so I dont know if they are possible eating on my tree?!? I didn't know they did that! lol.

Tonight I watched the movie 'Brothers.' I thought it was a good movie. I'm not a big fan of Toby McGuire but I really like Natalie Portman. I was surprised at how good of a job TM did in this movie. He did a great job at being 'crazy' basically lol. The ending left a lot to be desired, but I like that it was sort of a 'happy' ending rather than he just 'offing' himself, ya know? But thats just my opinion. :)

I think that pretty much sums up everything I have to talk about for now. I think I'll try to read the ending of my current read 'Rebel Angels' by Libba Bray. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Ande's Cherry Slushie Surprise Recipe

Its been pretty warm and around this time of the year I LOVE slushies... I also love my spirits lol. No I don't drink alot or often for that matter, but a mixed drink every now and again isn't that bad, is it? LOL =) Last weekend we went to Outback for dinner and I tried a Cherry Mojito, and LOVED it... so when I got home I thought I would try my own little Mojito recipe but put my spin on it, this is what I created tonight and its yummy!

Ande's Cherry Slushie Surprise Recipe
Ingredients:
  • Sprite
  • Cherry Pucker
  • Peachtree Schnapps
  • Lime Juice
  • Cherry Juice (I used marachino cherry juice)

Pattern Share: Mary Jane Slippers

I wanted to share my pattern for making Mary Jane Slippers. If you need any help with this pattern (because I am not a pattern writer haha) email me at tasince00@aol.com Thanks & Enjoy!

Materials Needed:
Worsted Weight Yarn (I used Redheart)
H Sized Hook
2 buttons
Needle

Directions:
Start w/ a magic ring and 8 dcs in the ring, then pull the yarn tail & sl st in top of 1st dc, ch 2.
Rd 2: 2 dc into each stitch, sl st into top of the first dc, ch 2.
Rd 3: 1 dc into same stitch as ch 2, 2 dc into next st, *1 dc into next st, 2 dc into next* repeat around, sl st into top of the first dc, ch 2.
Rd 4: 1 dc into same stitch as ch2, 1 dc in next stitch, 2 dc into next st, *1 dc into each of the next 2 sts, 2 dc into the next stitch* repeat around, sl st into top of the first dc, ch 2.
Rd 5 & 6: dc in each st around, sl st into 1st dc & ch 2.
Rd 7: dc into the first 23 sts, leaving the remaining sts unworked. Ch 2 and turn,
Rd 8-20: repeat rd 7.
Rd 21: Dc into first 10 sts, dc3tog, dc in the remaining sts.

Now fold right sides together and sl st from top down to the bottom of the heel.

Join yarn at the back of the slipper, sc in that stitch & sc around the slipper opening. When you reach the top corner (near toes) sc3tog, continue sc across top and sc3tog in opposite corner, then continue sc around the rest of the slipper until you reach where you started then sl st in the 1st sc you made.

Now we are going to sc around once more. SC2tog, then sc around to the top corner again, sc3tog, continue sc across top, and sc3tog in opposite corner, then continue sc around the rest of the slipper until you reach where you started then sl st in the 1st sc you made. Fasten off.

((You are making the slipper tighter fitting with these steps, so basically decrease at the heel and the top corners.))

The next step you can either use the same color or another color choice of yarn. You can also choose either to have a strap & button or leave your slippers without. If you decide not to have a strap then just sc around the entire slipper again following the above steps.

If you would like a strap and button following these steps:

Join yarn at the back center of the heel. SC in same st. Sc around until you reach where you want your strap to come across the top of the foot. Ch 17. Skip 1st 7 of the chain (this makes the button loop), DC in 8 remaining sts down to the bottom of your ch. Join with a sl st in the st before your 1st ch. then continue sc around the slipper, when you reach your beginning sc, join with a sl st. Fasten off & weave in all ends.

Attach your button across from the strap and you're done!

Would love to see your creations using this pattern! Please give credit where credit is due, thank you! Enjoy!

WIP: My 1st Afghan

I decided to start working on an afghan for our living room. I wanted something that goes with the color scheme but I could never find something that I truly liked. So I'm just working on this afghan a little at a time each day... so far I've only done about 6 rows... I like the effect I'm getting with the colors though. Sort of looks like a diamond wave pattern. I'm actually trying to create it a little larger than the afghans I have come across. I like them to be large enough to actually cuddle under... not just cover your legs, ya know? I think this is about 4 feet wide..
I'm using chocolate brown, beige, and sage green yarns :) I'll try to update my progress as I work on the afghan :)

Introducing Melonee

I dont know if I mentioned that the former Ms. Head (my 1st handmade mannequin) took a spill a few months back and didn't make it =( She's off to mannequin heaven unfortunatley. However, my bestie found a mannequin and was kind enough to ship her to me =) I'm sure you're probably wondering why I couldn't go out and buy a mannequin here... well I live in the middle of nowhere people! LOL... I searched everywhere for one.... anyway, a big THANK YEE to Ginger for finding Melonee, my new mannequin =) I'm debating on whether I should leave her white as pictured, or spice her up with some decopauge... any suggestions?

Since Melonee is styrofoam HOPEFULLY she will not be as prone to deadly accidents lol. I just thought I would introduce my new employee =) haha! Hoping everyone had a great weekend!

Cute Camo Creations

Camouflage seems to be pretty popular these days... at least in my neck of the woods it is. So I thought I would put together a group of a few really cute camo creations to share...

You can go to: http://www.etsy.com/treasury/c485ea1d4773cf4bfeda7d00/cute-camo-creations to click on each item and see a larger picture & description. You can also leave comments on your thoughts for this treasury. Hope you enjoy!

Cute Camo Mary Jane Slippers

Last night I completed my first pair of mary jane slippers. Aren't they cute? For some reason I'm really on a Camo kick, I guess because its just really popular around here. IDK. This particular pair fits a size 8 womens foot, but they can stretch to fit a size 10 womans foot. I like how stretchy they are. They are super cozy and comfortable. I really like them. I Hope to make more soon. I plan on making them for a mother's day gift for my m-i-l and my mom. I did list these on my shop here: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=45271831 and I am taking request for custom sizes and colors. Email me at tasince00@aol.com or send me an etsy convo if you are interested in ordering a pair.

Happy hump day!

Farts.....

I do it, I know you’ve done it, babies do it, kids do it, old people do it, young people do it, Barack Obama does it, even Jesus did it. He probably still does it. Up in Heaven…
It’s not blasphemy. I'm not trying to offend anyone or start some major issue... I'm just saying, it’s truth. If we didn’t pass gas, we’d explode, period. And while letting it escape through the mouth may be a tad more polite and socially acceptable really it’s no better than it passing through the butt, behind, hiney, bum, arse, rump, badonk-a-donk, whatever you wanna call the thing you sit on. Either way the human body is disgusting. I’m not knocking God’s design here, but have you ever really thought about the whole process of how our bodies digest food? It’s gross! I wonder..and whether you believe in the whole creation thing or not, just play along with me here…Adam & Eve are sittin in the garden of Eden, munching on their exotic fruits and veggies and Eve lets one rip. Because we all know that they farted. So Eve farts..a naked fart btw…no fabric to soften the blow..Does Adam get deeply offended? Does he leave the shade of their tree & move to the next? Does he wrinkle his nose & fuss about how gross and nasty she is? I’m leaning towards believing that he thought nothing of it. It was just a part of life. Part of their bodies doing what they were made to do. Or did farts not exist then? Like sin. When they ate that fruit, did farts come into existence just like wasps & maggots?
Anyway, it makes me wonder when farts became so unacceptable. I prefer to think of farts as a funny part of life. I would much rather view those things in life that are gross but necessary as just plain funny. There was a time when Tim and I were dating in high school... we were sitting on the swing outside in the yard, and I let one rip. I was comfortable with Tim, I always have been, but at that moment I couldn't contain it... it sort of just happened. Tim was shocked and was like 'what the heck' the face and his reaction were unforgettable... and my comment to him was 'What, girls fart too!' LOL. And we laughed hysterically for 20 minutes straight because we were both soooo serious with our reactions and comments about farting, but it was funny! Its true... EVERYONE farts lol.
Why not approach it like a child would? Kids always think farts are funny. I can remember when we were teeny tiny babies. Farts were always followed by either surprise, or laughter. So the next time you fart instead of reacting with embarrassment, I think you should approach it with this attitude:

And so ends my very random rant about flantulence =)

WIP: Crocheted Camo Mary Janes

Just thought I would share what I am up to... Aren't Mary Janes so cute?! So far I have finished the actually slipper part but I still need to add the strap and button to the slipper pictured and then make the second. The pattern was soo simple but it did take me a while to work it up the right size. I like how these will fit smaller feet, but stretch for larger feet (like mine lol).... I'll post pictures of the finished product as soon as I'm finished. Its late though so I think I'm going to call it a night... hopefully tomorrow I'll have a pair complete =) Have a great night!

Everyone is welcome to read a long with us and participate in the discussions! The link to the blog is http://dixiebookdivas.blogspot.com/
Follow us and keep track of our discussions. We are re-reading Eclipse for the months of April/May. Just in time for the release of Eclipse in theaters! Hope to see you there!

Bath Puff Anyone?

Its been a long day & its 1 am soooo I think I'm going to make this blog post short & sweet. I did want to share my newest creation however. Last night I finished up this super soft summer sherbet bath puff. It's a nice size (a little larger than my hand- measurements will come later lol.) I used each of the colors light pink, peach, & yellow from the summer sherbet dishcloths. Because in all honesty, you could use the dishcloths for washcloths as well. They would be perfect for either use. They are thick, absorbent, soft, sturdy & washer/dryer safe.... I just had to share because I like its outcome. I plan on working on potholders next. Then maybe an actual matching bath set, complete w/ bath puff, back scrubbie, wash cloths, & facial scrubbie! Who knows... I may also take a break from those items and try something completely different! LOL. Good night for now...

WIP: Washcloths & bath puff

Whats a WIP? It's a Work In Progress... I just thought I would share my WIP for the week. Aren't those colors fanominal together?! It reminds me of cotton candy or sherbet! The yarn is one of my favorite brands (I know I say this allll the time!) But 'I love this yarn' brand from Hobby Lobby is sooo great. I love the colors, and the softness of it. If you didn't look at the label you would NEVER know that its 100% acrylic yarn. Its just TOO soft! Thats why I decided to use it to make this set. So far I have 1 washcloth finished, and I'm half way finished with the second. Once I finish all the washcloths, I plan on making a bath puff with all of the colors mixed together. I think it will be pretty.... I also learned a new stitch, the crab stitch! I really like the outcome of the stitch too. It makes a really nice corded edging for the washcloths. I'll share pics when everythings finished! Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!

Relay for Life Donations

I've mentioned before that CreateCrochet is hosting a Relay for life Charity event. I finished 2 bandana's for the event... I am thinking of creating 1 more but havent decided the color scheme yet.

I took some better photo's of the 2 bandana's that I have made so far. Both are using Redheart Acrylic yarns.

Blue & Yellow

Pinks

I also made a blue & white beanie. Its my first time crocheting a beanie but I was pretty happy with the turn out. Funny, I never realized that the colors are Duke Blue Devils colors until my hubby pointed it out today LOL. Go figure! =)
